What Is Configurable Dynamics Activation?

Configurable dynamics activation unlocks JLR's individual drive-settings menu: instead of a single preset dynamic mode, you can independently tune throttle response, gearbox behaviour, steering weight and — where fitted — adaptive suspension firmness.

On vehicles with the feature, a Configurable Dynamics page in the touchscreen lets the driver save a personal combination — sharper throttle with comfort suspension, for example, which the factory presets do not allow. The feature is part of JLR's driving-dynamics package described across the current Range Rover range literature, but it is frequently disabled on mid-spec trims whose hardware supports it fully.

Why is a feature the hardware supports switched off? In most cases it is trim differentiation: the factory reserves the configurable menu for higher specifications, even though the dampers, steering rack and powertrain maps underneath are the same. Activation simply exposes what is already fitted. Owners typically use it to separate ride comfort from powertrain response — keeping the suspension in its softest map on broken roads while sharpening throttle and gearbox behaviour, a combination no factory preset offers. The saved profile persists across ignition cycles and can be returned to a standard mode at any time from the same menu, so the car's default behaviour is never lost.

How the Activation Is Done

Configurable dynamics is a pure software activation on any vehicle with the supporting hardware: a remote session updates the vehicle configuration and the new menus appear immediately — no parts, no workshop visit:

1. VIN and as-built check — we confirm adaptive dynamics hardware and the current feature state from the factory record.
2. Remote session — connect a compatible DoIP interface (or SDD setup for 2017-era cars) and a laptop; our technician updates the CCF through Pathfinder/TOPIx Cloud.
3. Menu verification — the Configurable Dynamics page appears in the vehicle settings; we walk through each adjustable parameter with you.
4. Road test — confirm the saved profile applies correctly across an ignition cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My car has adaptive suspension but no configurable menu — can it be activated? Very often, yes. Adaptive dampers plus a dynamic drive mode usually mean the hardware is complete and only the configuration flag is missing. The VIN check confirms this before you book.

Is this the same as remapping the engine? No. Configurable dynamics changes how existing systems respond — throttle mapping, shift strategy, steering assistance and damper rates — within factory-defined ranges. No ECU is remapped and power output is unchanged.

Will activation survive software updates? In the vast majority of cases, yes — the change lives in the vehicle configuration, which over-the-air updates do not reset. If a dealer ever restores as-built configuration, the activation can simply be repeated.

Can I get all-terrain progress control without the dynamics menu? Yes — ATPC is a separate activation with its own hardware dependency (it uses the standard braking and powertrain systems on most 2017+ models). It can be activated alone or alongside configurable dynamics.
