Why Acronis True Image Matters for Diagnostic Laptops

Acronis True Image is disk-imaging software that copies your entire Windows installation — system, drivers, applications and licenses — into a single restorable file. For a diagnostic laptop running SX-Tool, JLR SDD or Pathfinder, that image turns a Windows crash from a lost day of reinstalling into a short restore job.

Creating the Backup

Install Acronis True Image on the diagnostic laptop once everything works — drivers loaded, SDD patched, SX-Tool activated and verified against a real vehicle. Then create a full disk backup to an external USB drive, not to the same disk you are protecting. Label the image with the date and the software state it contains.

1. Connect an external USB drive with enough free space for the whole system disk.
2. Open Acronis True Image and choose Backup → Entire PC / Disks.
3. Select the system disk as the source and the USB drive as the destination.
4. Run the backup and verify it completes without errors.
5. Repeat after every major software change — new SDD patch level, new JET Master release, new drivers.

Restoring When Windows Fails

Create Acronis bootable rescue media (a USB stick) in advance — you cannot make one after the laptop stops booting. To restore: boot from the rescue media, choose Recover, point it at your latest disk image on the external drive, and let it rewrite the system disk. The laptop returns exactly to the backed-up state, licenses included.

Practical Notes

Keep at least two generations of images and store the rescue USB with the drive. A restore returns the machine to its licensed state, but replacing the laptop hardware entirely is a machine change — the SX-Tool license key page explains the switch procedure, or message us via contact.
