JLR Module Repair & Recovery

When a module stops responding — failed update, interrupted flash, SOTA lockdown or hardware failure — replacement is rarely the only option. We recover, repair and adapt JLR modules that dealers would simply replace.

A Bricked JLR Module Recovery Service, Not a Replacement Invoice

Our bricked JLR module recovery service exists for one reason: most "dead" JLR modules are not dead. An interrupted programming session, a failed software-over-the-air update or a voltage event leaves the module's software corrupt — but the bootloader underneath almost always survives, and the module can be recovered with the correct programming. Recovery typically costs a fixed fee far below the four-figure price of a new module, and most remote recovery sessions complete in under an hour of connected time.

What We Repair and Recover

Recovery covers the failures that follow interrupted writes and failed updates: SOTA lockdowns, ICTP faults, dead IMC units and used modules that refuse to adapt. These are the jobs we see weekly.

Fault Typical symptoms How we fix it
Bricked ECU/BCM/KVM Module silent after failed flash Bench or in-car recovery programming
SOTA lockdown Black screen, SOS inactive after failed OTA update Recovery flash via Pathfinder/TOPIx Cloud
ICTP / Touch Pro failure Black screens, boot loops, dead touch Software reload or hardware repair (mail-in)
IMC faults Infotainment dead or misconfigured Reset, reprogram or adapt a replacement unit
Used module fitment Donor module rejected by the car Virginise/clone, then program to your VIN

Bricked Module Recovery

An interrupted programming session — flat battery, dropped connection, failed over-the-air update — can leave an ECU unresponsive. Most "bricked" JLR modules are recoverable with bench-level engineering tools. Before you buy a replacement module, send us the details: recovery is usually cheaper and faster.

SOTA Lockdown

JLR's software-over-the-air system can leave modules in a locked state after a failed update sequence. The vehicle may show multiple warnings or lose functions entirely. SOTA lockdown recovery is a specialist programming job we perform regularly — remotely in many cases. The causes and prevention are covered in our SOTA lockdown guide.

InControl Touch Pro / ICTP Repair

Black screens, boot loops, dead touch layers and complete infotainment failure on Touch Pro and Touch Pro Duo systems (Range Rover Velar, Range Rover L405/L494, Discovery 5, Jaguar XE/XF/F-Pace and more). We diagnose first — many failures are software and resolve with a controlled reload — and repair hardware where repair is genuinely needed. Mail-in service available for owners and workshops.

IMC Reset & Programming

Infotainment master controller resets, replacement-unit configuration and used-unit adaptation. A used IMC/ICTP from another vehicle must be adapted before it will work in yours — a job standard dealer workflows will not do, and engineering tools will.

How It Works

The process is designed to keep the vehicle — and your schedule — moving: most recoveries run remotely through a live session, with mail-in as the fallback for modules that must leave the car.

  1. Describe the fault — order an assessment at sx-tool.com/en/shop with the VIN, module and symptoms
  2. Remote or mail-in — recoverable-in-car faults are handled in a remote session; hardware repairs ship to our workshop
  3. Fixed-price quote before any chargeable work — no hourly surprises
  4. Return or sign-off — repaired units ship back tracked (typically within 3–5 working days of arrival); remote jobs end with a functional test

Repair vs Replace: The Honest Arithmetic

A new BCM, KVM or infotainment unit from a dealer can run to four figures before programming labour. Recovery programming is a fixed-fee service; a quality used module plus adaptation is often a tenth of the new-part route. We quote recovery first and replacement only when the module is physically damaged — water ingress and board-level failure are the genuine exceptions, not the rule.

The Rules That Avoid Module Damage

Most of the recovery work we see traces back to five preventable mistakes: no battery support during programming, unstable internet on online flashes, budget VCI hardware on high-risk jobs, interrupted updates, and skipping post-repair calibration. Our programming safety checklist in the tool comparison guide covers each one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a bricked JLR module really be fixed without replacement? In the great majority of cases, yes. Failed flashes and interrupted updates corrupt the module's software, but the bootloader survives, so recovery programming restores it. Genuine replacement cases are the exception and usually involve physical or water damage rather than the failed write itself.

How much does module recovery cost compared with a new module? Recovery is a fixed-fee service quoted before any chargeable work, and it is typically a fraction of the four-figure cost of a new module plus dealer programming. If recovery proves impossible, the assessment tells you exactly what part is needed instead.

Do I have to remove the module and post it? Usually not. Most software-side recoveries are completed in a remote session with the module still in the vehicle. Mail-in bench service is for hardware repairs and modules that no longer communicate on the car.

How long does a mail-in repair take? Repaired units typically ship back within 3–5 working days of arrival at our workshop, tracked. Remote recovery sessions usually complete in under an hour of connected time once booked.

Can you adapt a used module from another vehicle? Yes — used KVM, BCM, IMC and powertrain modules can be virginised or cloned and then programmed to your VIN. Part-number compatibility is confirmed before any work starts, and the job includes the immobiliser and configuration synchronisation the dealer tools refuse to do.
